The 2006-2007 school year marks the 16th year for the Academic Booster organization at Antwerp Middle School and High School. Based on grades earned during the first grading period this year, 133 students received either a gold or a blue pride card. Gold card holders must have a 3.67 - 4.0 GPA, blue card holders must have a 3.33 - 3.66 GPA, and white card holders must show improvement in two subjects without dropping in any subject. The sole purpose of the Academic Boosters is to reward those students who have worked hard to receive a pride card, and to encourage those who did not qualify this nine weeks to try hard to qualify the next nine weeks. Pride card holders receive various perks throughout the year including a five-minute early dismissal for lunch, a chance to win a monthly raffle, free admission to one or two athletic events, participation in monthly doughnut bars, and enjoying occasional sundae bars during lunch periods. The Boosters also award savings bonds and plaques to seniors who meet the requirements, support the Quiz Bowl team financially, and pay for expenses incurred by the National Honor Society for the Induction Ceremony. In May, the Academic Boosters sponsor a trip to Cedar Point for any student who has earned four consecutive pride cards. The students pay for the group-rate admission ticket, while the Boosters pay the cost of the bus and driver, and also give each student some spending money. It is a fun day and a great way to end the year. The Boosters are in need of financial support to pay for the rewards that we give to our pride card holders. Contributions are broken down into three areas: Family memberships $5, Friends of the Boosters $10-$99, and Century Club $100 or more. If you would like to contribute, please make your check payable to Antwerp Academic Boosters, and mail it to Antwerp Academic Boosters, Antwerp High School, 303 S. Harrmann Rd. Antwerp, OH 45813.
