Intro to Multimedia Teacher: Mr. Tomlinson
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 10+ (System Literacy)

This course will complete work with advanced word-processing features, spreadsheet, and move into database management.  Several application software packages will be used.

           

Programming I Teacher: Mrs. Jewell
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 9+ (Only if enough students sign up)
This course will introduce the student to BASIC programming language and require daily assignments that utilize commands in BASIC. The student will be introduced to the history of computers, the computer system and how the parts of the system work together.

Multimedia Teacher: Mrs. Jewell
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 10+ (Intro to Multimedia)

Students will learn a variety of methods for creating multimedia presentations using digital cameras, scanners, video cameras and a variety of presentation software, including video editing and web design. They will also learn the basics of desktop publishing using PageMaker to create publications such as resumes, informational flyers, menus, certificates, cards, newsletters, brochures, business reports, and newspapers. In the process they will learn document planning and layout, manipulation of graphic and text elements, proofreading for detail, and print merging.  Students will also learn basic troubleshooting methods.


Advanced Multimedia (I,II) Teacher: Mrs. Jewell
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 11, 12 (Multimedia and recommendation of teacher; apply to Mrs. Jewell)

Maximum ~ 6 students This class will primarily be responsible for designing and maintaining the school’s web page and assisting teachers in creating and maintaining their own web pages.  Students will learn more advanced techniques with computer software such as integrating DreamWeaver and Flash in order to create professional web pages.  Students will also learn advanced video editing skills with professional video editing software.


Tech Applications I Teacher: Mrs. Barnett
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 9+ (staff recommendation, admin approval)

Students in Technology Application I will learn elementary computer systems checks, as well as be able to correct common errors in software and hardware. Students will learn a variety of application software through a course of study designed by the student and the technology staff that consists of self-guided, web-based and classroom-based study. Curriculum may be adjusted to skill level of student. Students will keep journals and portfolios of work and projects completed. They will also log tech support problems and solutions daily. Students will also be expected to be involved in at least one community service/school project.


Tech Applications II Teacher: Mrs. Barnett
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 10+ (Prerequisite: staff recommendation, admin approval, and successful completion of Computer Tech I, positive evaluation)

Second year students will continue upgrading their knowledge of computer applications and skills through a revised course of study designed by the student and the technology staff that consists of self-guided, web-based and classroom-based study. Students will learn network administration, imaging, and maintenance techniques. Each student will be responsible for at least one real-world learning project and/or a community service project. Journals and activity logs will be kept. Second year students will be responsible for maintaining the Tech Support section of the district web site and providing help desk tech support for staff and students. Students will be assigned as mentors to first year, junior high, and elementary students.


Tech Applications III Teacher: Mrs. Barnett
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 11+ (Prerequisite: staff recommendation, admin approval, and successful completion of Computer Tech II, positive evaluation)

Third year Technology Application students will continue upgrading their knowledge of computer applications and skills through a revised course of study designed by the student and the technology staff that consists of self-guided, web-based and classroom-based study. Third year students will learn to develop, maintain and update a technology inventory and technical support relational database and perform queries to prepare technology reports. Third year students will complete a school/community video project in addition to learning higher level application software and troubleshooting techniques. Journals and activity logs will be kept. Students will mentor first and second year students.


Tech Applications IV Teacher: Mrs. Barnett
Credit: 1 Prerequisites: Grades 12 (Prerequisite: staff recommendation, admin approval, and successful completion of Computer Tech III, positive evaluation)

Student, technology staff, and administration will design a fourth year student’s course of study. Each student will have an independent study plan. A final portfolio is required as an exit project that will include journals, independent learning summaries and results, projects, tech support logs, and a final evaluation by student and staff. Students will be assigned as mentors to first, second, and third year students.
